The 62MAS Skeleton Build – A Modern Take on a Legendary Icon

In the world of dive watches, few designs have stood the test of time like the Seiko 62MAS. As Seiko’s first professional dive watch from the 1960s, it has inspired countless timepieces, setting the benchmark for robust and functional tool watches. At Finemods, we took this legendary design and infused it with modern craftsmanship, creating a stunning skeletonized 62MAS build that blends vintage aesthetics with contemporary materials and innovation.

Vintage Pepsi Bezel with a Lume Twist

One of the most striking features of this build is its vintage-inspired Pepsi bezel insert. Unlike traditional aluminum or ceramic inserts, we opted for a glass material with full lume, making the bezel not only visually striking but also highly legible in low-light conditions. The classic blue and red 'Pepsi' colorway adds a nostalgic touch, paying homage to vintage dive watches while offering a unique depth and shine thanks to its glass construction.

Top Hat Sapphire Crystal – A Design Marvel

To enhance the retro charm, we fitted this build with a top hat sapphire crystal. This design choice does more than just provide exceptional scratch resistance – it creates stunning distortions and reflections at different angles, making the watch come alive under varying lighting conditions. The exaggerated height of the crystal adds a beautiful visual depth to the skeleton dial, emphasizing its open-worked movement and showcasing the intricate mechanics inside.

NH70 Skeleton Movement – A Window into Precision

At the heart of this 62MAS Skeleton Build is the Seiko NH70 movement, an automatic caliber that provides a fascinating view into the mechanics of timekeeping. The open-worked dial design allows the wearer to see the gears, wheels, and balance in motion, giving a sense of connection to the movement within. Reliable, accurate, and built for everyday wear, the NH70 is a perfect blend of technical artistry and robustness.

Bold Hands for Superior Readability

A skeletonized dial can sometimes compromise readability, but we’ve countered that with bold, high-contrast hands. The oversized hour and minute hands ensure exceptional legibility at a glance, maintaining the functionality of a true dive watch. The hands are generously lumed, ensuring optimal visibility even in the darkest conditions.

Rubber Strap – Comfort Meets Durability

To complete this build, we paired it with a durable and comfortable rubber strap. Designed for versatility and long-lasting wear, the rubber strap adds to the overall tool-watch aesthetic while ensuring a snug yet breathable fit on the wrist. Whether you’re diving into the ocean or heading out on an adventure, this strap makes the watch a reliable companion in any setting.

A Fusion of Vintage and Modern Excellence

This 62MAS Skeleton Build is more than just a watch; it’s a tribute to an icon, reimagined with modern materials and an innovative skeletonized movement. By blending a vintage-inspired bezel, bold hands, and a mesmerizing top hat sapphire crystal, we’ve created a timepiece that balances heritage and contemporary appeal effortlessly.

For those who appreciate the beauty of mechanics, vintage aesthetics, and modern craftsmanship, this build is a must-have. Stay tuned for more exciting creations from Finemods as we continue to push the boundaries of custom watchmaking!
